An interesting note--473 had its fake diamond stack, a "feature" it did not have from when it derailed during July 1951 in Animas Canyon in its "Bumblebee" paint until it was shopped in Alamosa over the winter of 1961-62, if memory serves. It also had lost the yard pilot it had for several years during that '61-'62 shopping. 473 also had the distinction of losing its diamond stack again when it ran light to Alamosa for its shopping in 1968, and it was the first K-28 to lose its diamond stack when Charles Bradshaw took over the Branch in 1981 (somewhere in my photo archives I have a photo of it in Durango in 1981 without its diamond stack, but still in Rio Grande paint--probably a rare photo, I would think).
