Dan, you mention Alder Springs being a blind siding which I assume you mean in the sense of a sw. at one only with no return to the main? If this is the case, you may be thinking of the siding at the west end of the big trestle which at some point also led to a logging spur line. Alder Springs Siding was a passing siding nearly a mile above the big trestle. The present FS road that overlays the grade is on the outside track, with ties still on the inside grade. There is a spur shown on the attached ROW map that drops below the grade which I understand was an Oregon Lumber Co. logging line. There was also a spur that took off to the west above the track from near the east siding sw. as I recall that was Baker White Pine. This is shown in a series of maps we have in our archives that were produced for tax purposes showing spurs and tracks added and later removed over the years. Attached also are a couple of clearance cars to help illustrate your discussion of the process.
