One thing I've often wondered, but never expect to get any real answer to, is if there were ever any surveys done formore tunnels along this line. From the maps there are three or four more places where a tunnel of this length, or shorter, would have eliminated a considerable amount of curvature. Of course between Lovejoy and then the switch to std gauge via Tennesse Pass if there ever were such surveys made, I suspect the results are long gone.
Would have complimented the proposed ,but ruled impossible upon survey, line through the rest of the Black Canyon. I wonder if any records from that survey still exist? Eevrything I've seen about it suggests that the first 17 or so miles were OK, then it went to heck. That would take the line down about to the narrowest section in what is now the National Park, right? Wonder if a tunnel(s) could have made that possible?
