Do you know why they didn't want to trade? I only met the man once back in 2002 or so for a few minutes, but from stories I've heard from former co-workers, he was quite the Type A personality.

That said, 25 years seems like a massive stretch for running gear life, knowing the operating habits. Maybe in a perfect world, but reality these days is closer to 5 or 10.
