Thanks Mike! One of the things that seems curious to me about the design of these truck is that they use a journal box cover that simply slides into a tapered slot like some of the real early stuff pre 20th century. The cover is of course eaily lifted off and lost. Ours have plywood covers. Do any of the ones you've seen at the WP&Y have some type of flat steel or perhaps a cast cover? These trucks also have a lug cast with large bolt hole cast at each end of the side frame near the top. Any idea what they were for? The only thing I could think of was for retaining chains such as tenders sometimes have so that in a derailment the truck can't stray far from the bolster.
