Gents: As I previously mentioned, early railfan photographers carried a stick of chalk in order to put numbers on unidentified equipment. Here are THREE photos of WSL (1st) #2, the "V" braced caboose. They show the same carbody with THREE DIFFERENT numbers, resting on THREE DIFFERENT flats.
I've had these 1930s pictures in my collection for years, but did not want to further confuse the situation by publishing them, mainly because I had no good explination for the differences. However, since the "can of worms" is already open, here they are. Are these the photos that Tim mentiones?
First photo (undated) shows NUMBER 4 on a 28' ex-NWP (NPC) flat with standard archbar trucks; Second photo (3-14-1937) by Bert Ward shows NUMBER 2 on 24' flat #46 with caboose style handrails and Carter Bros. swing motion trucks; Third photo (2/1939) by Paul Darrell shows carbody on flat (26'?) with NUMBER 1 and extended brake beam archbar spring trucks. Note the small lantern on front of cupola.Interesting!
