I would guess that the C&S locomotives would have been scrapped anyway as that is where they were headed before the army requisitioned them. Tales have been told that the Army tried to give them back to the C&S after the war (they were even shipped back as far as Seattle) and the C&S did not want them back so they were scrapped.
The Silverton Northern locomotives on the other hand might have survived had the Army not taken them. They had already been sitting around for a number of years without an effort being made to sell them, so they may well have continued to sit around for a while longer, perhaps long enough to be preserved.
