Re: Grove Farms/Lihue Plantation Railroad

Some of the Lihue Sugar Co. diesels were not scrapped, but sold to Cuba in 1959 (just ahead of the Revolución), including No. 622 seen in the video, where they survived until recently:

4wDE No. ? (10-ton, Whitcomb 60001 of 1936) at CAI Humberto Alvarez (former Central Dos Rosas), Cardenas, Matanzas, as MINAZ No. 2113, reported dumped in 2000;

B-B DE No. ? (30-ton, Atlas 2067 of 1938, 240 hp) at CAI Humberto Alvarez (former Central Dos Rosas), Cardenas, Matanzas, as MINAZ No. 2309, reported dumped in 2000;

B-B DE No. 622 (30-ton, GE 28515 of 1946 or 47, 310 hp) at CAI Sierra de Cibitas (former Central Lugareno No. 078) as MINAZ E-2413, c1980 to CAI Rafael Freyre (former Central Santa Lucia), Holguin, reported derelict 03/2003;

B-B DE No. 623 or 624 (30-ton, GE 28516 of 07/1947, 310 hp) at CAI Sierra de Cubitas (former Central Lugareno No. 077) as MINAZ No. 2412, c1980 to Parque de Diversiones "Camilo Cienfuegos", Camagüey, reported withdrawn in c2000 and relaced by Soviet-built TU-7E 34012;

B-B DE No. 625 (30-ton, GE 29833 of 04/1949, 310 hp) at CAI Sierra de Cubitas (former Central Lugareno No. 079) as MINAZ No. E-2414, c1980 to CAI Rafael Freyre (former Central Santa Lucia), Holguin, reported in use 03/2006, out-of-use by 01/2007.

Also Lihue 0-6-0 No. 604 ex 4 (Baldwin 17679 of 04/1900) was sold to Gene Autry in 1955 and went to the Melody Ranch in California. It is now owned by Fred Kepner and stored at the Modoc Northern siding in Merrill, Oregon (near Klamath Falls, OR).
