I am a little slow to enter this show. I love to read the opinions that all of you have stated, and they are great. One thing that I want to throw into the pot goes like this, my family traveled to Denver quite often to race horses at Centennial Race Course just outside of Littleton, Colorado in the 60's and 70's we were usually focused on traveling to our destination, setting up camp and spent most of our days at the track tending to Equine needs. On occasion Dad would let us do field trips to the state parks and such that were not to far of a drive, I do remember seeing some advertisements in the Tourist Info shops about riding the Silverton Train, knowing that it was on the other side of the state this was not an option for a field trip, but places like these I am sure helped add options to the masses of people who were on vacations to Colorado, New Mexico and the Four Corners Region.
One other item that I wanted to bring out was while we were traveling to racing venues with our Horses, we listened to the Radio most of the time to help kill time, sometimes it was 8-Tracks but most of the time it was local radio stations, one time I do remember while we were driving through Wyoming headed to Billings, Montana (in 75') and hearing C.W. McCall sing about the Silverton Train, thinking to myself I knew that, one day down the road I'd have to ride that train, pretty sad that it took 20 years to make that plunge, but I was glad I did, because I would have never found my number one favorite Railroad if the D&S hadn't of been there as a teaser to help lead me to the C&TS. Not that the D&S wanted me to, but the C&TS was my next stop on my visit to CO/NM of which helped change my plans to stay 4 days longer than I had planned.
In short, I think that any positive advertisement that anyone of you or your parents did by mouth or note really did have an impact on saving these two railroads for future generations to enjoy, and I am glad that it was done that way. Thank You.
Still a Student,
Dave
