Nice trip report Jason. I know what you mean about the little one keeping you up at night. When our daughter was younger we would pack her up with the rest of the luggage and video gear and take her with us all the time on video shoots. We did a 4-week trip in 1989 chasing 4449 from Portland-LA,4449-north of Fresno, Sierra charter, then Portland-Bend with 8444, then back to Cheyenne. Over 10K miles. She was about 18 months old so we had a 96-pack of pampers to start the trip!!! Guys chasing told us they didn't even know she was there until they peaked in the window. When she was 5 we had her out west for the John Craft Charters in Oct 1992. When we got home the school principal was angry that she missed so much time(she was in kindergarten for gosh sakes). They were threatening us or some such. We only missed about 10 days! In the old days when I was a kid my father would check with the school(we were older than Heather was), about getting out early, etc. The school principal back then was very understanding and said we would get more out of the travel than being in school, and gave us his blessing. The one year I remember this was 1968, when I was 17, and my brother was 13, and we headed west for an 8444 Memorial Day excursion, then several days on the Narrow gauge in the final year. Had I stayed in school we would have never seen 498,483,493 that final year in early June.
So, Jason, my advice is to pack him up for ALL your trips now, cause when he gets into school your travel plans and everything else will change drastically.
Enjoyed the report and pics.
