Bob,
That is a tricky photo.
If you look carefully, you will see that the top of the chimney is perfectly aligned with the rear corner of the cupola, which gives the false impression that it is positioned behind the cupola. You can see in the picture evidence of the scribes in the siding in what at first looks like the chimney.
It has always been where it belongs, but that shot fooled us at first too.
