Re: U.S. Gypsum Railroad at Gerlach, Nevada - was it Narrow Gauge?

Back in the 70's, the practice was to go on duty before the sun came up. I camped in my Datsun p/u one 1977 night right at the wye in Gerlach and deliberately picked the longest day of the year. The sound of the prime mover woke me up the next morning and I was able to follow the shove back up the hill to Empire. I had to hand hold my 6 by 7 a couple of times at slow shutter speed but its heavy weight worked for me. One of the photos was printed in Pacific News. There was a time then that the entire crew was all women.

At least one former W.P. 0-6-0 was used at this operation and if memory serves, made one of the last steam moves over the 5th sub to get there.
