Re: RGS No. 1 Replica

The RGS Motor no. 1 was built by Karl Schaeffer around 2000, using a 1926 Buick. The original was a 1925 model.

The cab is tiny. Karl and Bob, our usual motormen, just barely fit inside. I'm over 6 feet, and I literally cannot get my toes on the pedals; my knees are jammed against the dashboard. (Actually, I can touch the pedals, if I lay sideways in the seat.) Thus, I'm usually the guy-in-back.

I recently bought an On30 model of no. 1. The instructions for putting the motorman figure in the cab started with popping off the top of the cab. Step 2 says to cut off the feet of the motorman.

It seems that not even the modelers can stuff a modern human in the cab of no. 1!
