Thanks Ken, Chris and others:
I can only go by my detailed notes of the lettering on the 27' (Kansas Central) car made on July 8, 1969. The car had visible numbers 25780 and C&S 7681. I did not find any C&S 7611 lettering. I also found what appeared to be the number 402(?) on one end, inside the car. I think this was probably the original KC number.
It appears that 25192 was the new UP/KC number as of June 1, 1885 (per Erhenberger) and that this car may well have retained that number as the UP "assigned" KC boxcars numbers 25000-24499. The 25192 and other KC cars were sent to the DL&G in 1893.However, I do not find 7681 on any C&S boxcar listing. I am now wondering if I might have mis-rerad the C&S number which could have been 76_1?
Does anyone have a list of the original numbers of KC boxcars? From old unclear photos they appear to have been only three digits.-Mal
