based on the same diagram but with the eccentric crank and eccentric rod named
correctly (after me?), and with an basic explanation of how the valves are set

My only criticism of the above is that the central part of the valve spindle (or spool) is way too thick. IMHO the valve spindle and valve stem should look more like the following, which includes the valve stem bearing - a U-shaped block that slides in the valve guides and which both connects to and supports the combination lever (AKA the lap-and-lead lever) and also allows the spindle position to be precisely adjusted by loosening one nut and then tightening the other (see paragraph #5, above)
