Generally, they used black coal....

Sorry.

On the Durango end they used coal from the Hesperus area. Mines in the vicinity continue to supply coal to the D&S and C&TS. Monero Coal was used in the tipple in Monero as well as in Chama, although in the end I think Hesperus coal was sent to Chama. Alamosa coal came from a couple of sources, but usually from Walsenburg or Trinidad.

On the Gunnison lines, Crested Butte supplied coal for Gunnison and Montrose and I imagine Salida as Well.
