I guess I should add some better pictures It's nothing close to a rail spike. The back end is round, about 5/8" in diameter for about 3/16"-1/4". Then that gives way to a section with four ribs that are about 1/8" thick and 5/8" long. At the other end, the ribs connect to an acorn shaped section which is 3/4" diameter and 7/8" long, tapering into a nail like section (1-3/8" long) which is clearly intended to be driven into something. Iron or steel.
