Re: NNG: Retiring Engineer Given a 21-Torpedo Salute

I'm going to hijack the thread slightly. There were several employees of the G-Loop who were constructing a track on the South side of the Silver Plume depot. An engineer named John Bush was running the passenger train which showed up regularly. Some one dug around in the D&RGW long caboose and found several torpedoes. (You can see where this is going.) Anyway, John used to sit up in the engine window to keep an eye on the station platform. The stop had to be fairly precise because of the platform design. When John hit the torpedoes (several) he instinctively shut off the throttle and jumped to his feet! And then looked across the gangway to see all of us holding our hats to our hearts! John still managed to get her stopped in the right spot after he recovered. Sometimes you have to look for a laugh! JP
