With Amtrak's "Viewliner" sleepers, when the occupants of a compartment go off to the "free" breakfast, the porter latches the upper bunk to the ceiling and converts the lower bunk into facing seats; what was a cozy bedroom at night becomes a cozy riding compartment for daytime usage. I was surprised how much my wife liked the seeming luxury of the whole thing (we rode between Albany NY and South Bend IN several times when we lived in Mass).
Are any of the historic fleet owned by CATS anything like that? If so, they could turn it into a nifty parlor car while maintaining the historic interior design.
If not, will they have to completely change the historic arrangement to turn these cars into useful revenue-generating cars?
