Those who attend Friends of the C&TS work sessions know I've been working in Antonito for many years. I often look at the two K37's on display there and wonder what we could to make them look at least a little better for the non-railfan.
For me it's the missing headlights. Without them, they look terrible ! Even if the originals were available, I wouldn't want to have them be stolen. So I've been thinking of building some reproductions, something that would look okay from a distance, but up close would be obvious enough that a thief wouldn't waste their time.
My first idea was to find a metal can roughly the right diameter, then put a piece of plexiglass over the opening, and you got a headlight. But that's too crude, and I'd want the numberboards and reflector. Maybe someday we run power out to them so we can turn on the lights. Anyway, do any of you folks have any ideas how we could make something not too expensive, but the end result would satisfy the majority of the railfans ?
