Notice the high tech repair Jeremy is doing.

The pins holding the brake rigging had worked their way out a couple of inches and had to be hammered back in. (both sides had the problem)

The shop added washers to the inside of the pins the next day to solve the problem.

The pins holding the spings will also need washers on both sides to keep the cotter pins from breaking off. This will require making new pins and droping the drivers to insert them. The shop hopes to do this repair this winter.
