The engine was rebuilt by a fellow who usually works on flathead V8's. He did our work since it was for an unusual vehicle. We made the change to a distributor because the old buzz coils didn't like clanking over frogs and rail joints. They got out of adjustment after 10 - 15 miles of mainline operation. We discovered that the distributor conversion was an option available from American Bosch around 1918 and our old car guy had copies of the AB installation book. With that info and the instructions from Texas T (who supplied the new distr) it was a fairly smooth conversion. The railcar has been pretty reliable. It runs every weekend in good weather, following the steam train as the second section.
