There's almost a vogue for these vertical boiler machines here in UK (well the number of operable NG examples perhaps hasn't reached double figures, but there are enough around to be relatively familiar).
About three years ago 'Challoner' (a de Winton built engine) drove the 25 miles from Caernarfon to Porthmadog on a fine summer evening, pulling a wagon with 6 passengers. If Ifind the files I will try to post pictures on here.
de Winton were quarry engineers in Caernarfon who built several locos like this, at least one with double flanged wheels. They were ideal for the rough tracks close up to the quarry face.
