We have been working steadily towards our first rail construction project this summer--the "Silverton Northern Interpretive Center." This project involves laying the first 600 feet of actual track that can be used for the rebuilding of the SN. We secured the donation of 300 feet of rail that we brought into Silverton earlier this summer and it is on site where we will start the track. We have other rail available when we are able to move forward. We thought that we need to get actual work started to show some progress and that we were doing more than seeking donations or selling hats.
We have a fund raising project underway with 2 days left at:

and have 21 pledges for $5422 of the $7000 goal needed for the completion of our initial track project.
There is considerable grading and dirt work along with ties and the OTM needed to lay the track. Our initial goal was much higher but the rail donation cut a substantial amount out of or dollar needs.
As a brief recap, this is a project of the San Juan County Historical Society that will rebuild 2.5 miles of the Silverton Northern. We own the first 1200 feet of right-of-way and have a 99-year lease on the balance from San Juan County. Visit our website:

for more information, map, and photos.
We will appreciate any pledges made for this project--we're really close to the final goal.
