In preparing for the restoration of C&S caboose 1008 my brother Bob and I have visited Silver Plume and 1006 several times. We have spent hours in, on and under the car measuring and photographing the only remaining example of a C&S 4 wheel caboose with original running gear. Comparing the information we acquired on our expeditions with photos, drawings and the body of 1008 we have found a number of differences between 1006, 1009 and 1008 which make each unique.
While crawling around the car we found that the car is in need of maintenance to stabilize the structure of the car. We understand that crew members of the George Town Loop Railroad may be willing to help with some of the work. The citizens of Silver Plume who we met told us they are very proud of their car so I hope some arrangements can be worked out soon.
