They are flanged, just let the air out! 
The restoration looks great. We don't have any wood cabooses here so can only speculate about how much work wood restoration can take. We do mostly cosmetic restores, a sand blast and a repaint with some minor metal work and occasional window replacement. Very nice work. Russ
