Here Jerry is grooming the ballast so it is up to the top of the ties. The ballasting process depends on the skill of the engineer and ground people and in places it is either too deep or too shallow. Lacking mechanical ways to regulate the ballast level we use shovels and wheelbarrows.

Work is done on this 200 foot section of track. Time to head back to the yard and have a cold one once we go off duty.
