No. My recollection is that it was built by someone in Eureka, CA in the 1960s or 1970s. While it was clearly an attempt to make it look like a C&S caboose, it was lettered Humboldt and Northern #37. The body was built very well, but the running gear was savlaged from much lighter equipment. When the Georgetown Loop Railroad (the Ashby operation) bought it in 1996, the body was mostly complete, but still needed some finishing, mostly to the roof and interior. It had been stored inside while in California, so there had been very little deterioration. When we finished the car, we would run up the street to look at 1006 for reference, and the body of 1012 seemed to be built better than the original C&S caboose. When we were finished, I lettered it as C&S 1012, because last real one was 1011.It has apparently been repainted, and while the C&S logo was retained, the number was not.
Here's what it looked like when the finishing started. Both photos were taken on September 7, 1996.
