Rick,
The Airline industry has learned what the railroads did 50 years ago. Hauling people is expensive. Also you have to feed them, water them and bath them, and that takes money and service.
Now they want to go the way of Penn Central and L&N. Automated food service and discontinue flights in mid travel, like the railroad did to one train in the south.
You are right, it is the States failure to step up to the plate and take responsibility for the railroad. We are at this point since the States never wanted to actually operate the trains. Someone else should be hired to run it.
