When a moving locomotive on a train derails it is like slow motion. You sit there wondering if it ever is going to stop. In the meantime the momentum absorbing device is created in front of the engine. If this derailment is upgrade I would also suspect the spring switch although I have seen two trains derail on mechanically good switches. At least on a train the injury rate is somewhat less than the rate on the last 5 planes that fell out of the air. JP
