Let's not forget how we almost lost 473 when a runaway potatoe truck ran into the firemans side of the locomotive, as she was being ready for the days trip. Had the truck hit her just right the engine damage could had resulted in a boiler explosion. Talking with Dan McCall in 1997, he said that 473 had been hit the most by car and truck traffic then any other locomotive they had. I believe she sustained the most damage in the roundhouse fire, but not sure on that.
473 lead my first trip on the Silverton July 1975. Rode on coach 327, along with good old combine 212.
Let's hope DSNG can keep two K28s running. Wouldn't be the same if one wasn't running on the Silverton.
