Locomotive 482 had a 'plumbing' problem northbound and it was decided for safety's sake to stop at Cascade Canyon Wye and drop the fire. Passengers were able to get out and enjoy the wilderness area of Cascade Canyon while waiting for Diesel #7 to arrive and were given complimentary beverages and snacks. Diesel #7 brought the train with over 360 passengers back to Durango, arriving around 3:30pm.
Diesel #11 was already out testing a boxcar and the new trucks on the Yankee Girl and was used to tow the 482 back to Durango, arriving about 8:30pm.
We wish we didn't have breakdowns but again, plans were in place for the unexpected and bottom line...no one was injured.
Thanks for asking...it was a very unique consist to see!
