I sure don't pretend to know the answers, but I DO know what HAPPENED here, and I have a lot of questions.
Why do the Commissioners always have to wait until the bottom falls out before paying any attention?
Why are operators not required to submit to periodic inspections and inventories by the Commission?
Why did The Friends come to Chama with such arrogance? Why did they try to do it on a shoe-string? Why did they keep telling us that everyting was OK, when they knew that it was NOT OK?
Why did they not TELL US that they didn't have enough money?
Once again, the states handed the place to an operator, then walked away, assuming that everything was going to be OK.
IF The Friends could have approached it with an attitude that did not reek of arrogance, they might have made it.
If The Friends had really tried at the outset to get some BIG money, they might have made it. Why didn't they do that?
FWIW, I KNOW that there is 'big' money out there to be had. I have talked with one person who could bail the place out tomorrow. But he insists that there has to be a plan, and some real management. The Friends seem unable to come up with those things. Why?
Now all they seem to care about is grabbing a lot of tools, equipment and materials off the property so their 'investors' can get their money back. I'd like to get MY money back, too.
