When our crew rebuilt the wheel and tie (06092 in 1999) and the rail and tie (06051 in 2000) cars the decks had seen paint at some time but we thought it was since the Grande times. The inside of the tie box on 06051 was never painted and we soaked it down with Linseed oil. The earliest color pictures I have, show insides of gons and decks not painted. I sure don't think they were painted while in use.

A lot of people say roofwalks were not painted on box and stock cars, but I have plenty of color pics showing them painted. Dorman's Rocky Mountain railroads has a bunch of them also. Been a lot of evidence of them being painted on cars we have torn apart. When we took the roof walks off the double decks they showed evidence of paint. Those cars were sitting outside of the Alamosa roundhouse since Grande days.

I would sure like to tear into the 06084 rail and tie car (block car) and rebuid it.
