If I recall correctly, the original idea was to place a repair facility off the end of the west of the mainline where a saw mill was located at one time.
I think the sawmill site became a hazardous area but I really am not sure if I recall correctly. The current engine/round house area was to have been kept more or less like it was in the final days of operation like a museum.
The saw mill location was to have been a modern repair facility. There was an overhead crane loaded on some flat cars and (I think) along the ground for future use.
