Story is that 40(the road engine) dropped the #4 driver on the inside of the super elevated curve, and because the center drivers are blind they followed the 4s off the rail letting 40 roll over pulling the 20(the helper) with her.
From the photos the tracks look to be in good shape, so why did 40 drop the #4s? I have a hand written note from earlier in 1943 stating in part "Back tires loose on engine 40". This to me could be the cause of the roll over.
