This is also the first time that the track crew built two new switches within feet of each other. The switch construction went well but took considerable time. The plan is to add rail to the roundhouse spur this Summer. If track is extended to the coal pocket, locomotives can be coaled right there instead of hauling coal to the lower yard.
The next big work session will be Friday-Monday of the Columbus Day weekend in October. The mainline will be extended onto the property that was just purchased which will take the railroad to the location known as Top Of the Mountain. Another switch will be built for the set-out siding that served the railroad back when southbound trains had to double the hill. The siding will be built where the original track was.
