"Is this really necessary ?"
Well, first of all, Sweetheart, ... get your knickers out of a knot and open your mind. No need to fill out a Hurt Feelings Report here. Just straight talk amongst grown men, right ? I think we can handle a little straight talk.
..........................
My comments are a little of both, joking and serious. It's a suggestion to take on a different way of thinking. I know I have no right or power to expect anyone else to do as I say. But at the same time, see a whole ocean of foamy-eyed dreamers in the railfan world whose own paradigm of dreaming will keep them from ever amounting to the kind of driven individuals that rail preservation really NEEDS to fund that preservation.
A young and energetic pup like our friend EBTfan might look around, purposely size up a promising money earning career/education, and become "that guy" who makes sh!t happen. And I would be remiss as an old dog in not at least suggesting it. How many times in any of our lives has some old codge "shown us the light" in some way that helped us reach a goal ? Kapische ?
Think of it this way, ... does anyone think that a dedicated Kovalchick kind of moneymaker WITH a hard bent for steam preservation is really an impossible combination ? I sure don't.
Change the paradigm. and magic can happen. Keep doing what has always been done, and guess what ? .... we can expect the same results. In this case, another scrapped RR operation.
