Earl,

Was this pipe removed early on during the C&TS yrs? When did they remove that pipe and why? Interesting indeed that the 487 had the pipe installed by the D&RGW. Maybe some type of experiment which didn't go anywhere? I assume there is no added benefit from having the pipe in that position.
