Jon,
I saw in 1970 out of Cincinnati in BLACK. It was the first day of the 1970 World Series, and 4501 had been in a movie "Fools Parade" in West Virginia. Lettered Baltimore and Ohio and in black, it pulled 4 coaches south out of Ludlow in the morning. We chased as far as Williamstown, KY then headed to Cincinnati, where we had tickets for the first game of the WS. Lost to Baltimore unfortunately!!! Anyway the 4501 was good!!!
Now, nobody has said the engine is going to remain in black when its done. I hear rumblings both ways, and have no clue which way it will be painted. I hope for black, cause I like the number on the tender, but a lot of folks remember the green and prefer it that way. Guess we will know soon enough. This is an old favorite of a lot of folks cause for years it was about the best thing that was still running as far as steam goes. Then the American Freedom Train changed the landscape of big-time steam, with 2101,4449,T&P610, and later other engines like 614 and 2716, 2839,611, 1218, on and on.
Nice shot at Ludlow by the way. About the only good sun you get in the morning unless you hike into Amsterdam Road(trackside).
