Conductor B. (Berly) K. Boles was only a conductor for a little more than a month when he got this call. Mr. Boles (11-2-1917=10-17-2000) started as a brakeman on 8-23-1945 and was promoted to conductor on 1-10-1949. He was No. 17 in seniority in 1956.
In later years he worked out of Pueblo taking trains to Alamosa, after the Pueblo-LaVeta and Alamosa-LaVeta districts were combined. He also went Jansen, near Trinidad, when the D&RGW started unit coal train services in conjunction with the Colorado & Wyoming.
He also owned a small grocery store in north Pueblo. He was would take candy from his store and throw it to the BN operator in Walsenburg.
In the summer he was one of the conductors on The Silverton. This is where I met him. He was conductor on two of the three trips I made on the Silverton. Alva Lyons was conductor the other time.
Mr. Boles and his wife are buried in Pueblo.
