Last year some over-the-top cash herder (car dealer from FLA ?) sold his cubic dollar car collection (at a huge loss) so he could re-"invest" it in his latest "black hole" ... a giant, ocean-going yacht of some sort.
I observe hordes of guys like this, year after year, dropping millions of dollars on old cars at Barrett-Jackson and think to myself "Where is all this money coming from ?". A guy can only drive so many cars. They are just paperweights holding down the concrete floors in climate-controlled warehouses. You see where I'm going with this ?
Imagine a few of those same guys taking the same interest in employing an army of railroad professionals instead of car restoration guys and putting them up in a million-square-foot climate controlled "shop" and running a real life railroad.
Where are "those guys" who own strings of car dealerships or restaurant franchises to pursue their passion of narrow gauge preservation ? If there are none, why is that ? The old car preservation community boasts 100's or 1000's of them ! Some study here seems a good idea, no ?
