I've always wanted to ride behind the 45 over the hill. Back in the 60's and early 70's that was the daily run. My dad did so in the '68 or so, but by the time I could get up that way, they had 45 relegated to the Ft. Bragg-North Spur run. I've got a record (remember them?) with the 45 charging up the hill out of Willits quarter slipping the whole way.
I always liked the 45. The paint job has always been a bit over the top, but at least it ran. I guess I have a thing for 70 ton logging Mikes. One of my first up close and personal encounters with steam was with Santa Maria Valley RR #100 when she was in Arizona.
