First off the D&S recreated the Grande Gold scheme with the 473 which actually had that paint scheme for a short time in 1950-51. None of the K-36's were ever painted in the Grande Gold scheme and even the painting of the 473 was done despite Denver being against it per John Norwoods recollection. It would not be historically correct and I think it would detract from the locomotive to paint it in such a manner. It would also make the locomotive look dirty as after a few runs it would be covered in coal dust. The C&TS could paint them that way if they wanted to--there is not any proprietary licence that the D&S has on that scheme. Best to let the locomotives stay the color they are--please!!!!
