It isn't an issue of
Classic Trains magazine as such but rather one of CT's occasional special editions—
Steam Glory, vol. 3. It came out just a short while ago. The article by David Bell is "Experiencing 'Real Railroading'" and tells about how he discovered the D&RGW narrow gauge in 1962 and returned (from California) for visits in 1963 and 1964. There are some nice photos accompanying it. IMHO, there can never be enough articles about the narrow gauge, about the unexpected wonder and delight of discovering operating steam trains, etc.
