Salida conductor Gordon R. Straitiff (May 13, 1887-Jan. 19, 1961) began railroading as a brakeman on 4-2-1909 and was promoted to conductor on 11-1-1916. He was No. 35 in seniority in 1930 and No. 7 in 1944.
Straitiff, in the caboose, with the coal stove going, must have been a lot warmer than than engineer L. Anthony Dailey and his fireman on the 496, cab curtains not withstanding.
Straitiff married Anna M. Willhouser in 1952.

Gordon Straitiff was another person that Archives.com does not have census records on. A page-by-page search of the Salida census records may turn him up if I feel like doing it.
