"Is the engine superheated?" Answer: "no but the fireman is".
Seriously no it isn't superheated. I have quoted 3/4 cord (8x8x4) for typical round trip, but it is more when as we add extra cars. Maybe Jerry or Eric can get more specific. The quality of wood can effect dramatically how much is used. Split lodge pole pine is a lot less heat than some good red fir. 4' length works best with the length of the fire box. Short pices end up in a mish mash of holes in the fire. One needs some short pieces about 18" to throw in cross wise in front of the door to plug the holes there as you fire the wood tight to the flue sheet. Not sure on water comsupmtion. The tank is 1400 gallons and we easily make a round trip on that. On some of the photographer specials we are pretty low (out)by noon especially if the fireman isn't careful and lets it pop off a few times.
