While not as well known as his famous father Nathan (The Ghost of Alpine Tunnel) Martenis, Frank Martenis (1865-1913) was also a locomotive engineer, working for the Rio Grande out of Salida. Since I don't have 1900 seniority rosters I can't tell where his territory was.
His wife's name was Lena. Frank Martenis is buried in Salida's Fairview Cemetery. The cause of death is listed as blood poisoning. He has a Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers' listed on his headstone. Lena is not buried with him.

It appears that the Martenis family of New Jersey originated in Italy another I found some born in Norway and one in Russia. There are also a Nicholas Martenis, born circa 1843, who ran a hotel that catered to railroaders. I don't have enough information to list him as a close relative of Nathan Martenis.

UPDATE: Nathan Martenis had one brother, Alfred so Nicholas could not be closer than a cousin if he was a relative at all.
