No copter. If you look at the shots they are pretty steady, unlike what a helicopter would be in 1985(Since 1985 they have more stabilizing video equipment for copters).
The two distant shots are at the famous Hawks Nest State Park western overlooks, on different days in different directions. Its a nice spot to view the New River Gorge and get some perspective shots.
There was someone shooting helicopter footage on the day it ran on Amtrak I believe(after the coal trains were over), but we were not there that long. We did shoot 6 different days of the 20-24 runs they made in January 1985. One day we had a 5 inch snowfall, and had to try to catch up driving those nasty roads....it was challenging to say the least.
