What was so important about that train to Ouray that it meant calling out a crew to run on Christmas Day? It's strange, in view of the fact that no freight trains operated on any of the other narrow gauge lines that day.Would there have been any such thing as extra/overtime/holiday pay for the crew members back then to work that day.
The consist included a lot of empty ore boxes, perhaps a customer needed the empties as soon as possible.
In viewing rates of pay for earlier time periods I don't see provision for holiday pay, however I would not commit to positive answer without further review.
